About Us

City College of San Francisco (CCSF) is an amazing school! For over 80 years CCSF has been a dependable entry point for San Franciscans and other Bay Area residents intent on getting an education. CCSF has been the threshold for women and men seeking an accessible and affordable pathway to a better life, whether it be an Associate’s degree, a certificate of achievement in some specialty, or transfer to a college or university in the California system or in private higher ed. As well, the College has provided enrichment classes in many areas and an outstanding English as a Second Language program.

While the Bay Area is home to many colleges and universities, CCSF has been a beacon for many families to help them move up the economic ladder through workforce training and academic degrees. One in 6 residents of San Francisco has attended City College! With campuses and instructional sites throughout the city the College remains the largest workforce trainer in the Bay Area.

As the education funding model in California changed in the 1970s, community colleges formed 501(c)(3) entities to help raise much needed funds for just about everything in their budgets. These public benefit corporations provide a much-needed, trusted vehicle to raise funds for scholarships, academic programs, sports programs, even infrastructure projects for public colleges and universities. The Foundation of City College of San Francisco’s mission and focus is raising money to support CCSF – primarily the students but also faculty, staff, and the physical plant.

Public benefit corporations are governed by a board of directors, made up of interested citizens from all walks of life. For over 40 years the Foundation’s board has served the CCSF community raising needed funds, stewarding endowed assets, and being ambassadors for CCSF in the public arena. Board members give of their time, their treasure, and their talent because they respect the College and desire to support its mission.
